Research at the Institute for Operations Research and Information Systems (W-4) is dedicated to the area of Operations Research, a quantitatively oriented field of Management Science. In particular, the focus is on the development of quantitative models and the use of quantitative methods and highly developed algorithms to solve management planning problems. Particular attention is paid to problems from the field of logistics, e.g. routing optimization for trucks or berth allocation planning in ports. Another important research area of the Institute is the application of OR methods in the field of energy systems and energy markets, e.g. for the optimal control of decentralized producers and consumers.
