The Institute of Geo-Hydroinformatics has been established in summer 2020. We are interested in hydrological processes, environmental physics and energy related challenges. We focus on creating new knowledge through research and innovation, developing new measurement tools and predictive capabilities to provide accurate understanding of multiphase and multiscale processes occurring near Earth’s surface.
We combine theory, state-of-art modelling and experiments using cutting-edge tools such as synchrotron X-ray tomography, thermal imaging, 3D printing, neutron radiography, microfluidics, advanced machine learning, computational fluid dynamics and pore network modelling to cross disciplinary boundaries required to understand the complex mechanisms controlling heat, energy and mass transfer near Earth’s surface with a particular focus on the processes occurring in soil.
Our current research projects includes:

II) Fundamentals of Multiphase Flow in Porous Media,
III) Soil Water Evaporation Dynamics,
IV) Ecohydrology and Sustainable Terrestrial Ecosystems and
V) Foam Flow in Porous Media: From Fundamentals to Applications.
