The development and certification process of aircraft today is a very challenging and time consuming task. With the objective of reducing the development cost and time by integrative and efficient use of computers, the European Union and Airbus launched the project VIVACE (Value Improvement through a Virtual Aeronautical Collaborative Enterprise). However, also the development and certification of high lift systems is a very challenging task. In order to test and to certify the system, test rigs are built which contain all components of the high lift system. For special cases of investigation it is even necessary to merge the flap bodies and their mechanisms to the test rig. The air loads, ocurring mainly in start and landing phase of the aircraft, are then imposed directly on the flaps by force actuators. This procedure is particularly in case of large airplane projects very time and cost consuming. Therefore the simulation and development of simulation tools which replace complex tests appears to be a promising alternative.Within VIVACE, the Institute of Aircraft Systems Engineering is building up an enviroment for simulating highly dynamic rupture tests on a model of the complete flap system including all flaps, their mechanisms and the system for applicating the air loads. Special Software like ADAMS and ANSYS is used for that objective. The model is to be refined by further investigations of all parts in order to replace a part of the test procedure by simulations.
